A fun introduction to Crazy Quilt Embroidery, this embellished heart is modeled after a Victorian pin cushion. Wanting to make use of every scrap of time, women carried pincushions with them so they would be ever ready for any sewing need. Pinwheels concealed the points of the pins for safety by being inserted around the edges of stiffened fabric shapes. This heart pinwheel is one such example.
The embroidered heart 'pin wheels' also make adorable hanging ornaments.
